“MoFu 360/365”

Discussed fully and daily, Kaunas modernism does not cease to amaze. The city’s modernist architecture, attracting more and more attention, is expanding its circle of fans abroad and in Lithuania, both among artists and among politicians. Few and few doubts remain: this is the pride of Kaunas and the inspiration of a new generation of creators. Is there anything left unnoticed? Yes, our interwar heritage is rich in many uncoded possibilities, and its narrative shares a related bridge with the stories of other European cities, from Eastern, Central to Western.

More about the project:

In 2020, the European Union’s programme “Creative Europe 2014–2020” will explore these connections. Two-year project participants from “Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022” (Lithuania), “Institute of Culture Strategy ” (Lviv, Ukraine), interdisciplinary arts centre “Vaizard, z.ú.”(Brno, Czech Republic), regional development associations in the Kortrijk region and inter-governmental heritage organisation “Intercommunale Leiedal” (Belgium) will invite artists, together with local researchers and the heritage community, to create 14 artistic projects in modernist buildings.

These 14 unique projects will strengthen the narrative of Europe’s modernist heritage and will seek to reflect its current significance for the global society. The final result of the project will be presented at the opening weekend of the European Capital of Culture 2022 exhibition in Kaunas. During the opening weekend, you will also be able to explore the artistic projects that will take part in the exhibition and the publication that illustrates and represents the entire creative process.

Information on the project will be updated.
